Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is OEM software and what is meant by 'qualifying hardware'?
A. Some software producers allow oem's (original equipment manufactures) such as ourselves, to sell special versions of their software with systems at a lower price. Some operation systems eg Microsoft Windows95, Windows98 may also be sold along with a motherboard or hard drive. The more recent versions of Windows and all Microsoft Office versions may only be sold with systems (built or in kit form).
Q. Will your USB riser kit fit other motherboards?
A. There are several standards for the pin-outs on motherboards. The riser we supply seems to be the commonest. We do suggest that you look in your motherboard manual BEFORE you attempt to connect the riser in case the pin-out is different. If it is, you run the risk of severe damage to your motherboard and/or USB device. We supply a pin-out diagram with the riser and it is very easy to alter the connections on the plug. We CANNOT be held responsible for any damage caused by incorrect fitting.
Q. Will your memory work in my computer?
A. The memory we use works in all our motherboards and virtually all other makes of motherboard. There are, however, some more obscure or older boards, usally from Dell, Compaq and similar manufacturers, that require a special specification of memory. If you are unsure about this PLEASE ASK! Remember, not all memory works in all PC's, whatever other suppliers may tell you! With Laptop memory we need to know EXACTLY the make and model number to find a match and even then it can be tricky.
Q. I notice that you can still supply Windows98SE with your systems, why?
A. For the simple reason that many of our customers still require it. Windows ME was never popular (for some reason!) and Windows XP has yet to find favour with soome of our corporate customers who are still, in a lot of cases, running Windows95/8 or WindowsNT. If anyone wants any operating system (within reason) we can oblige.
