Valiant Computing UK Ltd
ADSL

Standing for Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line, this is the latest, high speed way of connecting to the Internet for browsing and e-mail. It requires the 'activation' of your existing BT telephone line (at the exchange end), insertion of a microfilter (at your end) and connection to your computer via an ADSL modem. Apart from the advantages of up to 512kb download speeds, permanent connection, easily networked, the phone line is still available for analogue phone calls.

We are able to offer the equipment package and installation know-how, the activation and connection account has to be done through an ISP. Typically this is being offered by BT, Freeserve, Demon and probably many others. Have a look at their respective web sites for details. If you go for a total DIY package (eg from Demon) we can supply the rest. However, if you go for some of the other packages, beware. They will want you to buy their modems and filters which are not necessarily the best for your application, as we found to our cost!

We can supply internal or external modems, routers (which are in effect modems combined with a hub and firewall and enable easy networking), microfilters, both in-line and outlet plate type.

The requirements for ADSL include:

All of the above details can generally be checked on (eg) BT's web site.

When calculating the cost (both installation and running), bear in mind that if you currently have ISDN you MAY actually SAVE money by converting.

If the idea of this attracts you, please call us for more details and a quotation.
